Artist's Statement

I continue to identify myself as a New Yorker, however, for the past year I have been living in San Miguel de Allende, a small town in Mexico.  The work I made during this time was constructed with wire and transparent paper, materials that allow the underlying structure of the sculpture to be revealed.  The paper, a delicate and evanescent medium, acts as a membrane that gives life to the suspended forms, and gives the wire structures clarity and definition.

Several of the pieces are mounted on the wall and project out in space.  Others are suspended from the ceiling and move with the slightest change in breeze.  While some of the sculptures literally move, others imply movement.

My pieces are inspired by organic shapes, by movement and gesture. Their forms, penetrating each other, suggest the physical; their lightness suggests flight; their color suggests bones.  The sculptures are rich with associations, emphasizing the erotic, yet they leave interpretation open to the viewer.  Whimsical, elegant, light, and luminescent, these pieces are rooted in the motion of gesture.

They give body and vitality to the ephemeral.
